How to Lay a Concrete Pad | Mitre 10 Easy As DIY - YouTube
Channel: Mitre 10 New Zealand
[4]
I'm gonna show you how you can lay a
[6]
concrete pad now these can be used for
[8]
driveways or paths but that one wee lane
[10]
today is for a shed fish you have to
[14]
decide where your sheds gonna sit you
[16]
need to allow enough distance from
[18]
hedges or fences now the shared I'm
[21]
gonna build is 1.8 by 1.5 this timber
[24]
will be the boxing for our concrete
[25]
paired I've already pre-cut my timber to
[28]
length I'm using 100 by 25 rough sawn
[31]
and treated timber now gonna nail the
[33]
boxing together and using 75 mil nails
[36]
just leave your now sticking out a
[40]
little way when we take the boxing off
[42]
it's going to make it nice and easy now
[48]
I'm just going to make sure that our
[49]
boxing is nice and square to do this I'm
[53]
just going to measure the diagonals and
[55]
ensure both ways are exactly the same
[57]
dimension you've got 24 72 spot-on next
[66]
thing you want to do is des around the
[68]
outside edge of your boxing
[76]
Alcala repaired requires 75 millimetres
[79]
of compacted base course underneath 75
[82]
millimetres of concrete there are
[83]
different depths of pads for different
[85]
jobs check my dirty ins online guide for
[87]
the correct pad for your project now the
[90]
pad can be level with the ground or
[91]
raised above it we want our concrete pad
[94]
level with the ground so this means we
[96]
need to remove 150 millimetres of soil
[99]
to allow for the compacted base course
[101]
and concrete the boxing is pegged in
[108]
place make sure the boxing is level so
[115]
the shed sits flat then fix the pigs to
[118]
the boxing and then just rake and remove
[126]
any loose dirt because our concrete pad
[134]
is for ship we've decided to put in a
[136]
rebate this is for the walls of the shed
[139]
to slot onto right now we can put in our
[143]
base course and this is your chance to
[149]
hire a compactor they're really easy to
[151]
use mix we add a layer of sand and then
[155]
we're going to give it a rake the sand
[161]
will fill in the holes on the base
[162]
course making a nice smooth surface now
[167]
it's time for the polythene make sure
[169]
you tuck it in Italy I paired the size
[173]
doesn't really need mesh but I'm gonna
[175]
add it anyway just to show you how it's
[177]
done
[183]
we're using little concrete blocks to
[185]
hold the mesh off the polythene so it
[187]
sits in the middle of the concrete slab
[192]
time for the main event
[194]
mix your concrete and a mixer according
[197]
to the instructions and then pour it
[198]
into the boxing I've tapped the boxing
[210]
to settle the concrete and get the air
[212]
bubbles out for the first stage of the
[214]
finishing process I'm using this former
[216]
one to screen it off next we're going to
[218]
use the magnesium trout this stops
[220]
drawing the water up and out of the
[222]
concrete and finally a steel trowel to
[225]
give us a nice smooth finish wait
[227]
between one to two hours and then repeat
[229]
this final step for an even smoother
[232]
finish now we just need to wait for the
[234]
concrete to cure keep an eye on a
[236]
concrete that dries too fast can crack
[238]
or shrink so you may want to give it a
[240]
light spray with the hose and sunny
[242]
conditions for something the size you'll
[244]
need to leave it for around 48 hours
[246]
right now it's time to take our boxing
[249]
off first thing you want to do just give
[253]
the boxing a light tap this will make it
[255]
easier to remove take our screws out of
[260]
the pigs now we'll just pull our nails
[264]
out of the boxing that we lift sticking
[267]
out and just very gently lift that up
[276]
and there's our finished paired with
[278]
rebate ready for our shared to fit onto
[281]
easy Aires for all the help and advice
[284]
you need to get the job done just hit
[286]
