I Built an Airbnb out of Cardboard - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
i'm going to build a house entirely out
[1]
of cardboard and list it on airbnb but
[3]
here's the thing if i'm going to
[5]
successfully get a cardboard house to be
[6]
accepted on airbnb it's gotta be legit
[9]
now i don't really have the resources to
[11]
hire an architect or a construction team
[12]
so i got to make do with what i got and
[14]
with that being said here's what i got a
[16]
ton of cardboard that i spent the last
[18]
three weeks gathering from various
[19]
friends houses and dumpsters because
[21]
cardboard is really expensive and i also
[23]
have a ton of duct tape to hold it all
[25]
together now i had a spot to build the
[26]
house but it needed a foundation and i
[28]
have all these wooden pallets that
[30]
should work just fine i gathered up all
[31]
the pallets and started laying them out
[33]
until i had a decent shape down for the
[34]
foundation and then i realized if i
[36]
wanted to make this house a decent size
[38]
i was going to need more pallets alexa
[40]
add pallets to my shopping list
[44]
stock so i started working on the walls
[45]
by using adhesive spray duct tape and
[47]
some basic brain power i was starting to
[49]
get somewhere okay so the first corner
[51]
of the house is done
[53]
kinda the next day i brought my wall out
[56]
to work on it just to find out rained
[58]
pretty bad last night and the humidity
[60]
is making the cardboard super flimsy my
[63]
tape is coming off of the cardboard it's
[65]
just a total mess right now i spent the
[67]
first hour of my day just patching up
[69]
the damage and trying to reinforce the
[70]
walls but then i got a pretty good idea
[73]
by cutting a bunch of small cardboard
[74]
strips and folding them into little beam
[76]
type things i could use them as supports
[78]
on the inside of the walls so i folded
[80]
up a bunch and tried straightening out
[81]
one of the walls once i had the whole
[83]
wall done i stood it back up to test it
[85]
out and well it's definitely better and
[87]
since it worked so well i decided to
[88]
make a bunch of those beam things but
[90]
every time i pick these walls up they
[92]
bend over me they're super flimsy
[94]
they're not gonna hold but i think i
[95]
figured out a way to fix this i'm gonna
[96]
take more of these support beams and lay
[98]
them across between these beams giving
[100]
me more support this way not just this
[103]
way after putting all the horizontal
[105]
support in the wall it was time to glue
[107]
down some sheets for the interior walls
[109]
after all if i want airbnb to take me
[111]
seriously i'm gonna have to make these
[112]
walls super thick and sturdy okay this
[115]
first wall is done i think let's stand
[119]
this thing up yo this is super sturdy
[121]
what
[123]
now that's a wall i just gotta do that
[125]
three more times and build a roof now
[127]
i'm sure you're wondering how i'm able
[128]
to build such beautiful creations well
[131]
i've been building houses since i was
[132]
like six years old up on ladders and
[134]
scaffolds down in the trenches inside
[137]
houses outside houses on top of houses i
[140]
was always working and i loved it i mean
[143]
look at me this looks straight out of a
[144]
history book under child labor laws okay
[147]
so now that i had a folding technique
[149]
nailed down and a basic blueprint for
[151]
these walls i had some serious gas i
[153]
mean i was cooking with it the gas i was
[155]
cooking with gas now i was moving pretty
[157]
fast for a while and the progress was
[159]
looking beautiful one side of the front
[161]
wall is done and the best part is i can
[164]
carry it by myself but i started to get
[166]
kind of tired at this point i feel like
[168]
it's easier to build like an actual
[170]
house my hands are very swollen so i did
[173]
my best for as long as i could but i
[175]
slowed all the way down
[177]
the next day i came in with one last
[179]
wall to make i had a can of adhesive
[181]
spray in my trusty roll of duct tape i
[184]
wasn't messing around with a little
[186]
sweat few tears and minimal messing
[188]
around i completed the last wall all
[191]
right so all four walls are done and
[193]
it's time to set it up i don't really
[195]
want to set it up outside because we
[197]
might get some rain today what else is
[199]
new so i'm gonna try to set it up in
[201]
here but there is one problem i'm
[203]
completely by myself and i can't lift
[205]
these things alone so to set these walls
[207]
up i was gonna need an extra body so in
[208]
the meantime i decided to build some
[210]
trusses trusses are those big wooden
[212]
triangle things that hold the roof up
[213]
but since i can't use wood i had to
[215]
build literally hundreds of cardboard
[217]
two by fours tape them all together so
[219]
they'd be long enough to make these
[220]
trusses so it'll look something like
[222]
this now this might not seem like a lot
[224]
but it took me two days of working late
[226]
into the night just to make enough beans
[228]
it's starting to look like a lumber yard
[229]
in here and i'm probably down to like
[231]
three brain cells since i've been
[232]
breathing in adhesive rail week so me
[234]
and my last few brain cells were doing
[236]
our very best to build these trusses
[238]
which was going quick and smooth until
[240]
the worst thing ever happened
[244]
i'm out of tape okay that might have
[245]
been a bit dramatic but at this point i
[248]
had gone through over 27 rolls of duct
[251]
tape and 14 cans of adhesive spray which
[253]
put me about
[254]
439 dollars in the hole and that hole
[257]
was about to get a lot deeper as this
[259]
project went on but i wasn't stopping
[261]
until i built the most luxurious
[262]
cardboard house and rented it to someone
[264]
on airbnb so after yet another hard
[267]
day's work and many more rolls of duct
[269]
tape i had all the trusses i needed for
[271]
the roof and at this point i did my best
[273]
to put the walls together just to see if
[275]
this was structurally sound and i almost
[277]
broke my camera in the process oh
[280]
i just saved your life this is huge i
[282]
got my front door back wall here and
[284]
then other big wall this is huge these
[288]
ceilings are mega high they're seven
[291]
feet tall which raised the question how
[293]
was i a five foot seven real-life mario
[296]
going to set these trusses on top of the
[298]
walls i wasn't having any luck at all so
[300]
there's no way to set these trusses one
[302]
by one on top of the wall so i'm gonna
[304]
build the roof on the floor connecting
[306]
the trusses to the beams one every 18
[308]
inches now this part was pretty
[309]
challenging because i had to keep each
[311]
truss straight in parallel with each
[313]
other as i taped them together but with
[314]
a little hard work patience and a ton of
[317]
stubbornness i successfully built the
[319]
world's first up to code cardboard roof
[324]
it kind of works how do you plan on
[326]
getting this thing out the garage oh my
[328]
god what did i do like an idiot i made
[332]
the roof too big to fit out the garage
[334]
doors how could i have been so foolish
[336]
but i wasn't about to let this be my
[338]
demise so i quickly disassembled part of
[340]
the trusses and with the help of my
[342]
friends and neighbors i was able to
[343]
maneuver them out the door once we got
[345]
the roof to the foundation it was time
[347]
to finish this once and for all first
[350]
was the porch roof spray tape spray tape
[353]
complete then it was the main roof spray
[355]
tape spray tape complete so there's only
[358]
one last thing to do
[360]
put it all together assembling this
[361]
house was not a task for the faint of
[363]
heart me and my team of cardboard
[365]
athletes put our all into the
[366]
preparation of this build knowing that
[368]
this roof was way too big for us to lift
[370]
alone it was time to bring out the big
[372]
guns the tractor now this was a risky
[374]
move because one small mistake with this
[376]
tractor in over a month of progress
[379]
would be destroyed so we had to be
[381]
nimble and on our toes at all times and
[383]
with careful planning execution and a
[385]
few finishing touches the airbnb was
[388]
done
[389]
it's looking pretty good in here but you
[391]
know what this place needs a couch that
[393]
is also made of only cardboard beautiful
[395]
countertops with everything you need to
[397]
cook an awesome meal equipped with all
[399]
the best appliances a refrigerator to
[402]
keep your cold seltzers a nice table and
[404]
chair to eat your meals you can't forget
[406]
the bed what's an airbnb without the
[408]
beat and if you're cold you can warm up
[410]
by the fireplace now i know what you're
[412]
thinking cardboard house fired probably
[415]
not a good idea but i'm a risk taker so
[417]
here we are and to top it all off we've
[419]
got some cardboard art made by yours
[421]
truly so this place is looking pretty
[423]
good it's standing pretty dang solid i
[425]
don't think it's going anywhere unless
[427]
of course it rains but i've got my
[429]
pictures
[430]
it's time to put this thing on airbnb so
[432]
i made the most legendary cardboard
[434]
house and airbnb accepted it yes and
[438]
after only two days last night somebody
[440]
booked the airbnb and they are checking
[442]
in today which means i need to get this
[444]
place ready to go i couldn't believe it
[447]
687 in and i built the world's first
[450]
cardboard airbnb
[454]
dude this wall is totally blown out the
[457]
beam is being crushed right now there's
[460]
holes in my ceiling i can't have
[462]
somebody stay in this thing and on top
[463]
of that there was no way this was going
[465]
to survive the thunderstorm heading my
[467]
way so i decided it was time to have
[469]
some fun
[469]
[Music]
[476]
not to mention i saw a spider in there
[478]
so why
[479]
that's all i got
