Easy to Fix a Clogged Sink - No Tools Needed - YouTube

Channel: Tomahawk DIY

[0]
welcome to tomahawk diy everyone today i
[2]
want to take a look at
[4]
unclogging a drain
[7]
so if you have a bathroom sink drain
[10]
that
[11]
the water is backing
[14]
up it can be a pretty easy thing to fix
[18]
so if your sink fills up with water
[20]
after running for a little bit
[22]
and it's backing up it's pretty easy to
[24]
fix
[25]
so let's take a look at how to do that
[30]
when doing this one of the first things
[32]
you want to do is remember you're going
[33]
to be taking off um the drain pipe down
[35]
below so
[37]
i like to do something to remind myself
[40]
not to turn on the faucet um otherwise
[43]
you're gonna send water down uh to a
[45]
place that's not going down the sewer
[47]
all right so under the sink
[49]
first get things cleared out make sure
[51]
you put a bucket
[53]
of some kind under the gooseneck or the
[55]
p-trap you're gonna get a little bit of
[57]
water that runs out
[60]
i may get a little bit smelly as well
[62]
i'll warn you of that
[64]
because uh the purpose of this gooseneck
[67]
here is that there's water that sits in
[69]
here all the time and that water acts as
[71]
a trap to block
[74]
any sewer gas
[75]
from finding its way back up so
[78]
um
[80]
that's if you're ever wondering why
[81]
there's gooseneck that's the reason so
[84]
to
[85]
work on this we're going to
[88]
loosen
[89]
these two
[93]
rings
[94]
some water is going to start coming
[98]
out so just slide this thing down
[102]
like so
[104]
and dump it out and you can see some
[107]
hair in there
[108]
not real pretty sight now the next thing
[110]
we're going to do
[111]
is
[112]
disconnect
[114]
back here
[116]
there's this rod
[121]
that actually goes back to the the
[124]
drain plug up above so to undo that
[127]
we've got to unscrew this
[128]
this one's gotten a little bit of
[130]
corrosion on it
[140]
and we're going to pull out
[145]
pull out the piece okay
[147]
that's going to last pull
[150]
pull this guy out okay we're going to
[152]
set this side but we're going to clean
[153]
this off
[156]
and then you can see all this hair and
[158]
other junk backed up in here so to clean
[162]
it out
[162]
i like to take a newspaper
[166]
and work it down it's going to kind of
[169]
chase everything down into the bucket
[170]
below
[173]
i'm gonna use this big screwdriver uh
[176]
you could do something else in there to
[178]
help push this down once my fingers
[182]
can't get it anymore
[186]
you pull that out at the bottom
[188]
you're gonna send another one down now
[190]
obviously make sure you've taken the
[192]
p-trap off down below before you start
[194]
sending the newspaper down
[196]
otherwise uh it's not going to work so
[198]
well
[198]
we don't want to try and send this down
[200]
to the sewer
[205]
you could use paper towels or
[207]
some other
[208]
soft flexible
[210]
paper we do this so let's see what
[212]
happened down below
[214]
all right so
[215]
now we've
[218]
chased all this junk out
[220]
we're ready to
[221]
work on putting the sink back together
[223]
check out the inside of here see if
[225]
there's anything you need to clean out
[226]
in this case there is
[232]
we got this thing cleaned out
[234]
so now we're going to reconnect it
[237]
slide it up
[239]
and get
[245]
you see there's these
[247]
gaskets you're gonna
[249]
get nice and tight
[251]
right around the edge now
[252]
before i like to just tighten a little
[255]
bit down on one side then come over the
[257]
other side and start tightening
[259]
you can do that
[264]
work your way between the two
[266]
rings on the p-trap as you tighten them
[268]
down
[270]
and that will help the gasket sit nice
[272]
and
[273]
smooth
[274]
and get this guy cleaned off
[282]
hopefully you don't have any drips if
[284]
you do
[285]
tighten things down a little bit more
[288]
if for some reason you need to replace
[289]
some parts i'll include a link down to
[291]
amazon where you can get some
[292]
new p-traps and gaskets and things
[296]
um i like to make sure i've wiped all
[299]
the water off and
[301]
then keep an eye on this over the next
[303]
couple days maybe leave a bucket down
[304]
below
[306]
a dry bucket check on be sure there's no
[308]
water leaking
[310]
so there we have it now we've got our
[312]
sink
[313]
fixed
[314]
and pretty straightforward easy to do
[316]
save yourself some money from calling
[317]
the plumber do it yourself
