Channel: Justin Brown - Primal Video
[0]
this is the complete beginner's guide to
[2]
youtube live streaming we're going to
[3]
step through exactly how to live stream
[5]
on youtube in the easiest ways possible
[7]
and build up to some more advanced live
[9]
streaming software apps and tools that
[11]
you can easily incorporate to boost your
[13]
results fast hey it's justin brown here
[15]
from primal video where we help you grow
[17]
an audience and scale your revenue with
[19]
online video if you're new here make
[21]
sure you click that subscribe button and
[23]
all the links to everything we mentioned
[24]
in this video you can find linked in the
[26]
description box below so let's jump into
[28]
it so this is the complete beginner's
[30]
guide to youtube live streaming so we're
[32]
going to start with the most basic
[33]
options first and show you how you can
[35]
easily get set up and get going live
[37]
from there i'll start to introduce some
[39]
more advanced steps that you can easily
[41]
implement to boost your quality
[42]
including some simple software some
[44]
simple apps and even how you can get
[46]
branded animations like this one done up
[48]
in just a few minutes and incorporate
[50]
cool elements like this into your live
[52]
streaming so you get super polished
[54]
results so first up no matter what
[56]
you're using you will need to make sure
[58]
that your channel is set up for live
[60]
streaming so you need to make sure that
[61]
your youtube channel is verified and
[63]
that you do have live streaming enabled
[65]
you can do this really quickly or you
[67]
can check that this is enabled for you
[68]
by heading to youtube.com forward slash
[71]
verify if you're already verified it's
[73]
going to say your channel is already
[74]
verified if it's not verified yet then
[76]
just follow those simple steps on screen
[78]
to get your account verified and then
[80]
you'll just want to make sure that
[81]
you've got live streaming enabled for
[82]
your channel now that that's done we can
[84]
go and look at the easiest way to go
[86]
live and this is a basic way for you to
[88]
go live just with your web browser on
[90]
your desktop computer and literally this
[92]
is done on the youtube web page itself
[95]
just using your webcam and your
[96]
microphone so for this all you need to
[98]
do is head to youtube.com come up and
[101]
hit this create a video and more button
[104]
and come down to go live
[106]
now when this page loads on the left
[109]
here you want to pick webcam
[111]
i'm going to give your stream a title
[113]
we'll just go test
[115]
stream
[116]
in our case here we'll make this test
[117]
stream uh private but you could also
[119]
make it unlisted or public now if you do
[121]
want to schedule this stream for later
[123]
then you can check the box here and
[124]
enter the date and times for your live
[126]
stream we'll turn that off now because
[128]
we're going to go live now and you will
[130]
need to answer this question here around
[131]
is this video made for kids to comply
[134]
with the children's online privacy
[136]
protection act or copper so is this made
[139]
for kids no it is not made for kids and
[141]
we'll just go next it's going to quickly
[143]
take a thumbnail pose do something silly
[146]
okay we've got a thumbnail now if you do
[148]
want to upload your own custom thumbnail
[150]
you move your mouse over here and you
[151]
can choose upload custom thumbnail or
[153]
you want to retake your image
[157]
just click on that take another one now
[159]
to grab a copy of the link for you to
[160]
share out to people to let them know
[162]
that you are going live if you want to
[164]
post it on other platforms you can hit
[165]
share and then this is your link here to
[168]
send out to people and to let them know
[170]
that you are going live so you can
[171]
actually do this right now before you do
[173]
go live jump on facebook wherever else
[175]
you want to post it share that link out
[178]
but then when you want to go live all
[179]
you have to do is hit go live and we are
[181]
counting down
[183]
we're live okay so then on the side here
[185]
is where you have your chat to interact
[187]
with everyone so yeah super basic but
[189]
we're live and we're on youtube this is
[191]
the easiest way to go live on youtube to
[194]
end the stream all you have to do is
[195]
click down the bottom here on end stream
[197]
are you sure you want to end your stream
[199]
end
[201]
and we are done so the advantages of
[204]
going live this way is that it's fast
[206]
it's easy and that there's no additional
[208]
software required so as for the
[209]
disadvantages or the downsides then
[211]
there really is no control that you're
[213]
getting over things like screen sharing
[215]
or adding titles into your stream or
[217]
playing videos or changing cameras or
[219]
bringing in additional guests or other
[221]
people to join you while you're live but
[223]
going live to youtube this way is the
[225]
most basic and the easiest way to go
[227]
live from your desktop now the process
[229]
to go live from your mobile is very
[231]
similar all you need to do is to open up
[232]
the youtube app we hit that little
[234]
create video button at the top again
[237]
and come down to live
[239]
now while you're getting this set up you
[240]
can keep it in portrait you will want to
[241]
rotate it to landscape before you go
[244]
live but you can give your video a title
[245]
test
[246]
stream
[248]
we can choose if it's unlisted
[251]
or public let's go unlisted we can add
[253]
our location in there if we want to
[256]
once again we'll need to mark if this
[257]
video is made for kids or not no it's
[259]
not meant for kids and you need to
[261]
answer this question do you want to
[262]
restrict your video to an adult audience
[264]
no we don't restrict then we can just go
[266]
next or make us pose or smile for a
[269]
thumbnail
[274]
and then all we need to do to start the
[275]
stream is just hit go live now if you do
[277]
want to go live from your smartphone
[279]
then youtube does have some restrictions
[281]
in place that you need to meet their
[283]
requirements for first so they say to be
[285]
able to live stream on your mobile your
[286]
channel will need to have at least 1 000
[289]
subscribers now that is if you're going
[290]
to be using the youtube app now if you
[292]
do want to live stream to youtube from
[294]
your mobile device and you don't have
[296]
1000 subscribers yet you can still do it
[298]
you just can't use the youtube app you
[300]
can use another app like prism live
[302]
studio which will let you get around
[304]
that and broadcast to youtube on their
[307]
app okay so now let's ramp things up a
[309]
little bit more and get a little bit
[310]
more advanced this is the result that we
[312]
are going to build out to now now
[314]
there's a few simple tips and a few
[315]
tools that we're going to incorporate to
[317]
help you get there but don't stress you
[319]
don't need to do all of them each one of
[321]
these alone will take your results up a
[323]
notch so you can start small and you can
[325]
eventually build out and incorporate
[327]
more of these things over time so the
[329]
first thing you can do to take your live
[330]
streams up a notch and to get some of
[332]
these more advanced things happening is
[334]
to grab some live streaming software or
[336]
to use a live streaming platform now
[338]
we're not going to run through all the
[339]
different live streaming options you've
[340]
got out there we've already got
[341]
dedicated videos on our channel for that
[344]
i will link them up in the cards and
[345]
below in the description if you're
[347]
trying to work out which one is going to
[348]
be the best one for you but really what
[350]
we're talking about here is using
[351]
software like obs or ecam live or bee
[354]
live or stream yard or wirecast or vmix
[357]
all of these solutions are really going
[359]
to let you level up and create much more
[360]
professional looking live streams giving
[363]
you support for things like multiple
[364]
cameras adding titles and videos on
[367]
screen using green screen the ability to
[370]
bring people in for an interview or even
[371]
to share your powerpoint presentation or
[373]
your keynote presentation and much much
[376]
more now so i'm not leaving you high and
[377]
dry or confused at this point my
[380]
immediate recommendations for most
[381]
people right now if you're on a mac goes
[384]
to ecam live or there's also stream yard
[387]
which will work on both mac or pc
[389]
honestly you can't go wrong with either
[391]
one of those two my personal preference
[393]
and what i use is ecam live on mac and
[396]
again links to all of this stuff you can
[397]
find in the description box below but
[400]
once you've got your live stream
[401]
software picked you can schedule up your
[402]
live stream by again coming back to
[404]
youtube coming down to go live now
[407]
instead of coming over to webcam we're
[408]
going to leave it up here on stream and
[410]
this is where we can fill in the
[411]
information to schedule up our live
[413]
stream which then those platforms or the
[416]
software that you're going to use can
[417]
access this and stream directly to it or
[420]
what you'll also find is that a lot of
[422]
the live streaming platforms a lot of
[423]
the live streaming software will
[425]
actually let you schedule up your live
[427]
stream directly from within the
[428]
application so for this example i'm on
[430]
ecam live here now we can see we've got
[432]
the destination or our live stream going
[434]
to youtube our broadcast let's go
[436]
private and then from here we can either
[438]
choose to go live now unscheduled or to
[440]
schedule it up we can see ones here that
[442]
are already been scheduled or we can
[444]
come down here to new scheduled live
[446]
stream and we can fill in this
[447]
information again to schedule up your
[449]
stream so as for some of those more
[451]
advanced controls and better looking
[452]
live streams you can see we can just
[454]
drag and drop an image in here i can
[456]
pinch to zoom make it bigger or smaller
[458]
i can come up here and switch to a
[460]
screen share and get rid of that guy so
[463]
you're able to see my computer screen i
[465]
can pinch to zoom and move things around
[467]
if i want to do a tutorial or something
[468]
on here and again all of this can be
[470]
happening and be changed and tweaked
[472]
while you're actually live
[474]
so you can see you get so much more
[475]
control and so much more creativity that
[477]
you can bring into your live streams
[478]
just using software like this so once
[480]
you've got that up and running the next
[482]
thing you can do is to start to look at
[483]
some cool animations or some lower
[485]
thirds or some titles and things that
[487]
you can use and you can incorporate in
[489]
your live streams to add that next level
[491]
of professionalism now i personally used
[493]
to sit there and create this stuff from
[494]
scratch it took a ton of time and then i
[497]
found a service called videohive where
[499]
you can purchase a lot of these
[500]
templates and things which made the
[502]
process much much easier but i found an
[505]
even cooler option and it is called
[506]
place it now this is an awesome service
[509]
and this is what we use to make a simple
[510]
animation like this in just a few
[512]
minutes so obviously looking back at the
[514]
time that i used to spend making all of
[516]
this stuff manually and even then
[518]
purchasing the templates and those sorts
[520]
of things and customizing them up from
[521]
there place it being able to create
[523]
something that looks like this in just a
[525]
matter of minutes is just insane now if
[527]
you want to find out more about playset
[528]
and see all the awesome stuff that you
[529]
can easily create in there then we have
[531]
a link down in the description below
[533]
which does give you some sort of a
[534]
discount right now at the time of
[536]
filming this video now this is not a
[538]
sponsored video we are an affiliate for
[540]
them but we just love the platform and
[541]
we really just wanted to jump at the
[543]
chance to support them because this is
[544]
what we use and i just can't believe how
[546]
easy and simple they make this stuff so
[548]
we've looked at the software we've
[550]
looked at the animations now we're going
[551]
to look at some of the gear that's going
[552]
to help you with your live streaming one
[554]
of my favorite pieces of gear for live
[556]
streaming is called the elgato stream
[558]
deck this makes it so easy to control
[560]
your live streaming software and easily
[562]
switch between different camera angles
[565]
or your screen share literally with the
[567]
press of a button so what this is
[568]
essentially a heap of extra buttons that
[571]
you can program up to run and to manage
[573]
your live stream now the stream deck
[575]
does support a heap of different live
[576]
streaming programs and live streaming
[578]
software but if the one that you want to
[580]
use isn't specifically listed it's
[582]
likely that you'll still be able to use
[583]
it just manually programming these keys
[586]
to trigger keyboard shortcuts to do the
[588]
things that you're looking to do now if
[589]
you're someone who is looking for a
[591]
really professional looking live stream
[593]
then you could consider using a more
[595]
professional camera instead of a webcam
[597]
to actually run the live stream so this
[599]
is where you could hook up your dslr
[601]
your mirrorless your video camera your
[603]
point and shoot camera to hook that up
[605]
to run the live stream instead of just
[606]
using your webcam but to do that in most
[609]
cases you will need what's called an
[611]
hdmi interface unit this will
[613]
essentially let you take the hdmi feed
[616]
or the video feed out of your camera and
[618]
plug it into your computer so that it
[620]
essentially picks it up as a webcam and
[622]
from there you can use that in your live
[624]
streaming software now the one that i
[625]
use currently and the one that i
[627]
recommend is the elgato cam link 4k this
[630]
thing is absolutely amazing and if you
[632]
are looking to plug your camera into
[634]
your computer this is the piece of gear
[636]
that i would recommend now just while
[637]
we're on this there are some cameras out
[639]
there that will let you hook them up
[640]
directly to your computer to use them as
[643]
a webcam or for live streaming without
[644]
the need for things like the elgato cam
[647]
link 4k they'll just work straight out
[649]
of the box so it is worth doing a quick
[651]
google search to see if your specific
[653]
camera can be connected with usb for
[656]
video use because there seems to be more
[658]
and more cameras that are supporting
[659]
this right now but if your camera
[661]
doesn't support just using usb then
[663]
that's where you'll need something like
[664]
this kamlik 4k so now that you know how
[666]
all that stuff works i've got a couple
[668]
of really quick pro tips for you for
[670]
live streaming the first one is to
[672]
always run a speed test before you
[675]
actually go live having a solid internet
[677]
connection is probably the most
[679]
important thing when it comes to live
[681]
streaming so that you can actually push
[682]
out a good quality live streaming feed
[685]
without dropouts and issues for your
[687]
viewers watching so to run a test you
[689]
want to head over to the website
[690]
speedtest.net
[692]
and run the test on the website there
[694]
now it's going to go in two parts the
[695]
first is going to test your download
[697]
speed and then the second part of the
[699]
test is where it tests your upload speed
[701]
and that's what we're looking at here
[702]
because you're going to be uploading
[704]
your video and audio or your live stream
[706]
to your live streaming platform youtube
[708]
facebook or wherever you're sending it
[709]
out you want to make sure that it is
[711]
your upload speed that is good and is
[713]
consistent and not jumping all over the
[715]
place so i would say here at an absolute
[718]
minimum and i do mean minimum your
[720]
upload speed needs to be a solid or a
[722]
consistent 2.5 to 3 megabits per second
[726]
at an absolute minimum but ideally
[729]
you're looking five to ten megabits per
[731]
second just to be safe and obviously if
[733]
it's higher than this then perfect but
[735]
if it is lower than the absolute minimum
[737]
2.5 megabits per second or three
[739]
megabits per second at a minimum then i
[742]
would be looking for an alternative to
[744]
go live maybe looking at hotspotting
[745]
from your phone or just trying to use a
[747]
different internet connection so that
[749]
you don't have any issues while you're
[750]
live so the second pro tip i've got for
[752]
you is after your live stream has
[754]
finished you can actually jump into your
[756]
youtube analytics for that live stream
[758]
and you can see how many viewers you had
[760]
you can see if you had any technical
[762]
issues or errors with your live stream
[764]
and with your internet connection you
[765]
can see how many comments you had how
[766]
many people stuck around and how long
[768]
they stuck around and watched your live
[769]
stream for so it's really interesting to
[771]
dive into the analytics after your live
[773]
stream is finished to get some insight
[775]
into how your live stream went and how
[777]
your viewers liked it how long they
[778]
stuck around and the third pro tip that
[780]
i've got for you is that you can
[781]
actually edit down your live streams
[782]
once they're finished so you don't need
[784]
to download your video make any edits to
[787]
it remove any sections you don't want
[788]
and upload it as a new piece of content
[790]
you can actually just edit down and
[792]
remove pieces from your live stream
[794]
while that video is live on youtube so
[796]
say for example you're running some sort
[798]
of live training you could trim off the
[800]
start of your live stream where you
[801]
might be greeting everyone and welcoming
[803]
them on to the training and maybe you'll
[805]
cut off the q a at the end or if there's
[807]
a section that goes wrong in the middle
[808]
that you want to remove then you have
[810]
that ability using the youtube video
[812]
editor once your live stream is finished
[814]
so to access that all you need to do is
[816]
to bring up your live stream and come
[817]
down to edit video and then on the left
[819]
hand side here you get access to the
[821]
youtube editor now we've done a full
[823]
walkthrough video on that youtube video
[825]
editor so if you want to find out more
[826]
about it then there will be a link in
[828]
the description box below but it's a
[830]
pretty cool feature to be able to trim
[831]
down your live streams without the need
[832]
to create a whole new video and
[834]
re-upload it to the platform so that's
[836]
how easy it is to go live on youtube
[838]
whether you're looking for the simplest
[839]
and easiest way or whether you're
[841]
looking to grow into something more
[842]
professional and more advanced we've got
[844]
you covered now if you want to find out
[846]
more about live streaming platforms and
[847]
live streaming software options whether
[849]
you're on mac or pc check out the videos
[852]
that are linked on the screen now
[853]
and i'll see you soon
